Step 2 - Get a quick overview of what a diabetes insulin pump is

An insulin pump is an alternative to multiple daily injections. Instead of injecting insulin by syringe or with an insulin pen, insulin is delivered in small doses by a pump.

Normally an insulin pump will include:

• The insulin pump itself, a medical device designed to deliver insulin safely, discreetly and accurately.
  
  
• A clear disposable container inside the pump for insulin.
  
  
• A disposable thin tubing know as an 'infusion set'. The infusion set includes a small needle to allow delivery of insulin into the body which is called a 'cannula'. The infusion set is connected to the insulin container in the insulin pump.
  
  
• The Accu-Chek® Combo insulin pump includes a Remote Control Bluetooth® Handset. This handset allows on-board therapy management, with options to control insulin delivery and data management tools for analysing results on-the-go.
