What Are The Advantages Of Performing Quality Control Tests?
Performing quality control tests affords you peace of mind in knowing that
your Accu-Chek blood glucose monitoring systems (and especially your Accu-Chek
meters and test strips) are functioning correctly and giving glucose readings,
which are in accordance with our expectations. Performing quality control
tests enables the you to assess the accuracy and precision of your Accu-Chek
blood glucose monitoring system using the same type of quality control program
employed within medical institutes (Hospital wards, GP Surgeries etc).
How Is A Quality Control Test Performed?
Control testing involves performing a glucose test on solutions with known
glucose values (provided by Roche Diagnostics Limited) following the same
technique that you would use when testing your own blood samples. Control
tests are used to make sure that:
-
Your good technique is producing a good result.
-
The meter and test strips are working properly.
Control solutions come in two levels of concentration - low and high. With
these two levels of control solutions, the user can simulate situations where
patient glucose levels are low and high and then check your technique and
instrument system performance within those situations.
If the control test result falls within the acceptable range for each level of
glucose concentration, we conclude that your testing technique is good and
that the instrument system is functioning properly. If the result is not in
the range, this suggests that this is a problem either with the technique or
with the system.
* You must then inspect the system to see if there are problems with the
instrument or test strips. You also need to review their technique to make
sure the test is performed properly.
