Roche Diabetes Care awarded silver in the Patient Partnership Index for JDRF involvement
Roche Diabetes Care has been awarded a Silver standard in the Patient Partnership Index in recognition of its support of type 1 diabetes charity JDRF (the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
The Index created and co-owned by leading industry publication Pharma Times and specialist health communications agency OVID Health, evaluates the standards of partnerships in communications and advocacy between pharmaceutical companies and patient communities, based on best practice. It aims to celebrate companies that meet the mark in order to raise the bar across the board.
Roche Diabetes Care were awarded silver for its ongoing involvement with JDRF, supporting the charity’s series of Discovery Day meetings as headline sponsor. In addition, Roche Diabetes Care also supported the ‘Pathway to Choice’ initiative with JDRF, alongside other industry partners in a bid to raise awareness of, and access to, type 1 diabetes technology choices.
The Discovery Day events help to bring together the type 1 diabetes community and provide information, inspiration and a support network to those living with type 1.
They provide opportunities to learn about new technologies and treatments, meet other people living with the condition and hear about the latest JDRF research. They are particularly popular with the newly diagnosed where a sense of community and contact with other people with a shared experience is crucial. They also provide learning opportunities and activities for children, as many parents of children with type one diabetes also attend.
Headline sponsorship has provided security on these events and allowed them to grow. Since Roche Diabetes Care became involved in sponsoring the programme, JDRF has expanded Discovery Days into new areas of the country. They were also able to expand the number of events held by 20% each year.
Lucy Mason Pearson, JDRF’s Corporate Partnerships Manager, said: “The multi-year sponsorship from Roche Diabetes Care enables JDRF to plan and improve the Discovery Day programme. Their involvement in the programme has enabled us to reach a wider community including healthcare professionals via the sales team distributing information in clinics.
“Involvement with the Discovery Day programme enables Roche Diabetes Care staff to liaise with the type 1 community which provides them with a deeper knowledge of the type 1 diabetes lived experience.”
Conn O’Neill, Public Affairs Lead at Roche Diabetes Care, said: “We were delighted that Roche Diabetes Care received a Silver standard in the Patient Partnership Index from Pharma Times. Having previously worked for a patient organisation it has been a priority in my time at Roche to engage meaningfully in this space. We’ll be focusing even more on co-creation over the next 12 months in the hope of achieving Gold in 2021.”
Jenny Ousbey, from the Patient Partnership Index Team, said: “As the Chair of the judging panel, on behalf of all the judges I would like to share our thanks and gratitude for your time and effort. Your example not only displays the tremendous work taking place between pharma and patient groups but acts to inspire and encourage other companies. Congratulations again from all of us on your result.”
Roche Diabetes Care will take part in the Patient Partnership Virtual Conference, taking place on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.
