How patients can use mySugr to manage their diabetes

Manually keeping track of diabetes data is a lot of work! Without complete and accurate data it's difficult for you to make any adjustments to your patients diabetes management or help them troubleshoot problems. Our mySugr® app* aims to change all of that.

Automatic logging from a connected device

Once your patient connects their Accu-Chek blood glucose meter with our mySugr app, the connected device will automatically log their blood glucose readings into the app. So there is no need to flick through paper logbooks anymore! Patterns are easier to spot and the information within the app is immediately useful. With one quick glance, you can both can get an overview of their day and week. They can also search for tags, keywords, or locations. Everything is available in a few taps in the app.

How do you log diabetes-relevant data?

Tap on the “+” on the mySugr dashboard. From there, the user will arrive at their logging screen. There’s one field for each item they may want to log.

The time and date are automatically set for the user, and so is the location (assuming location services are enabled). The user can, of course, change any of these by tapping on them – to enter readings from earlier in the day or another day altogether.

Pro Tips:

  1. When changing the date or time, always change the day first otherwise mySugr thinks the user is trying to save data in the future.
  2. The user can assign labels and icons to locations (home, work, gym, etc.). Tap the location field, type a label, pick an icon, enjoy!

What can your patients log?

We have created fields to cover many facets of therapy as treatment-related information (like insulin doses and pills), key measurements, vital data, food, activity, notes and lots of other contextual information.

Type Field
Treatment <ul><li>Insulin (food) alias their meal bolus</li><li>Insulin (correction) aka correction</li><li>Insulin (basal) aka long-acting insulin</li><li>Temporary Basal</li><li>Pills</li></ul>
Food <ul><li>Meal description</li><li>Carbs Content</li><li>Food types/groups</li><li>Pictures</li></ul>
Activity <ul><li>Activity description</li><li>Activity Duration</li><li>Steps</li></ul>
Vital Data <ul><li>Blood Pressure</li><li>Weight</li></ul>
Key Measurements <ul><li>Blood Glucose</li><li>Ketones</li><li>HbA1c</li></ul>
Context <ul><li>Time</li><li>Location</li><li>Tags</li><li>Notes</li></ul>

Whilst this may seem overwhelming to some of your patients, there are two points to remember:

  1. Firstly, they are all optional. Users can create an entry with data in every field, or if they want to create an entry with only a tag or note, that’s fine. It’s up to them.
  2. Secondly, users can hide fields they don’t care about, and even rearrange the order on their screen. That means your patients get to decide what’s most important to them and where it is on their screen.

To make life easier, your patients can connect their Accu-Chek Instant meter and other connected devices to automatically log their data. They can find a list of available devices in the "Connections" menu item.

App settings - units and target ranges

To make the most of mySugr, your patients will need to update the app settings. This includes their blood glucose unit (mmol/L in the UK and Ireland) and carbs unit (grams in the UK and Ireland). Do they use insulin? If so, is it with pens/syringes, or do they use an insulin pump?

Setting these therapy details as well as their specific target ranges help us craft a great experience for them. All of these things can be set when they first log into our mySugr app or updated anytime within the “Account & Settings” menu.

Setting blood glucose reminders

The reminder is the little alarm bell at the very top of the logging screen (unless the user has already moved it).** If the user cannot see reminders, they may need to tap on "Show all fields" to make it visible. Blood glucose reminders are meant to help remind users to do something shortly (15 minutes - 3 hours) after an entry. For example, they could use it to remember their post-meal blood glucose check, or to take their shot at the end of a meal when they have a low.

To set a reminder, they just set the desired time. At that time, their alarm will ring, and they’ll get a notification.

Using tags to add context

Every piece of your patient's diabetes data has a story. Using mySugr tags help tell that story. They help your patients to understand their diabetes and the relationships between certain situations and their blood glucose better. They help find patterns in their values and help you interpret their data. Therapy optimisation is way easier with some context.

When the user creates a new entry or edits an automatic log from their connected device, they’ll find almost 50 tags that they can use to help add context, or tell the story of that entry. They can easily select them with a quick fingertip tap.
