It is important to remember that you know your diabetes, and you need a care plan that works for you, in conjunction with your healthcare professional’s advice.

Put ‘joint decision making’ at the heart of your diabetes care. You should have the opportunity to make informed decisions about your care and treatment, in partnership with your healthcare team. The “Value your voice” leaflet highlights why you may have seen your prescriptions changed or reduced and aims to give advice on how best to handle these changes.

If you think this might be affecting you, but you don’t know where to start- a good place to start is by getting to know the guidelines. Knowing when self-monitoring is appropriate and why you are checking your blood glucose in the first place is important and can help you have useful conversations with your Healthcare Professional. Find out more about blood glucose monitoring recommendations.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provide advice and publish guidelines that make evidence-based recommendations on health topics, including diabetes. Download the “NICE to Know” leaflet, to find out more about setting HbA1c targets, individualised care plans, and when self-monitoring is recommended.
